David Carpenter / カーペンタ・デービッド
President/CEO 

David lived and worked in Japan for 5 years after graduating from the University of Kentucky.   He spent 4 years as a faculty member for the Nagasaki In-touch Community Center and did public relations work for the Nagasaki Prefecture government and tourism.  His last year in Japan was spent as Assistant Director of the Kobe Friendship House Community Center and worked as a translator in international guest relations for Tokyu Sports Oasis.

David Carpenter was named Honorary Consul General of Japan to Kentucky in December of 2014.  The role of Honorary Consul of Japan to Kentucky is to represent and facilitate the interest and rights of Japan and Japanese nationals living in Kentucky; protect and promotion of the interests concerning the commerce and navigation of Japan and Japanese national; the settlement of civil disputes among Japanese national themselves and interchange of culture with foreign counties. 

David assumes his post as Honorary Consul in a state that has extensive economic, cultural and social ties to Japan. There are over 200 Japanese–owned facilities in Kentucky, which employ more than 47,000 people.

Before working for the Japan/America Society of Kentucky, David spent 11 years at Toyota Motor Manufacturing in Georgetown, KY working in Community/Public Relations.  

David received his Bachelor of Science in Human Environmental Sciences from the University of Kentucky in 1995.  He is originally from Prestonsburg, Kentucky and currently lives with in with his spouse in Lexington and is the proud father of a 19-year-old son.

Abby Edwards / エドワーズ・アビー
Project Manager

Abby is the Project Manager at the Japan/America Society of Kentucky (JASK). She is responsible for JASK’s ongoing programs, including the development and implementation of marketing strategies. She graduated from the University of Kentucky in 2021 where she studied Modern and Classical Languages, Literatures and Cultures along with International Studies. During her undergraduate career, she was an intern at JASK. She is an alum of the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program, having lived in Hokkaido. She is currently a graduate student studying the history of Japanese cultural diplomacy.
